The Malaysian Police arrested an unnamed Nigerian private student on Wednesday, April 27 in connection with the seizure of 20.8kg of syabu (methamphetamine) worth about RM3.2 million.
It was smuggled from China through courier, was intended for distribution to the local population addict. After a police raid on a house in Bukit Mahkota Cheras, the packages of drugs were hidden in a portable air-conditioning to avoid detection by the authorities.
The drugs, weighing about 20.8kg, were hidden in a secret compartment in the machines. Initial investigation showed the suspect had the drug into the country from China, using a courier company, "
"The suspect had just started with drug trafficking in Malaysia about nine months ago and we are still detecting the other members of the syndicate. The medicine can meet the demand of35,000 addicts for a month," he said .
The perpetrator is held on the basis of Article 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 which carries the mandatory death sentence upon conviction.
