Raw food diet has become increasingly popular these days. While
winter isn’t the best time to start eating raw, summer is the perfect
time to do it. In summer, fruit and vegetables are plentiful, organic,
cheap and tasty. Many people eat raw to lose weight, keep it off or
simply to improve overall health. Whether you stick to a semi-raw or raw
food diet, you reap all its health benefits while enjoying delicious
food. Though I don’t promote 100% raw food diet, I do promote semi-raw
food diet that will give your body all nutrients it needs in terms of
nutrition and energy. Here’s why you should start eating raw foods
today:
1. Reduce your risk of cancer
You can significantly reduce your risk of cancer by incorporating
more raw foods into your daily eating plan. Raw foods are higher in
vitamins, minerals and antioxidants and lower in toxins than cooked
foods. Cooking foods can produce toxic carcinogens that can lead to
different types of cancer and many other diseases.
2. Raw foods contain natural enzymes
Raw foods are an excellent source of different enzymes that promote
better digestion, healthy cholesterol levels and prevent constipation.
Moreover, eating raw foods regularly helps speed up your metabolism,
thus help you lose weight. Enzymes can also reduce inflammation in your
body.
3. Fight sugar cravings
If your cravings get out of control and you can’t curb your sweet
tooth, eating raw foods will help you to solve this problem. Fruits are a
natural source of sugar and many other nutrients that give your body
energy. When eaten with seeds and nuts, raw fruits make perfectly
healthy snacks. There are certain vegetables that can also help you
combat your sugar cravings, such as bell peppers, tomatoes and carrots.
They are fortified with powerful antioxidants, vitamins and minerals and
low in calories. When cooked, fruits and vegetables are low in
nutrients, so you think you eat healthy when in fact you don’t.
4. Raw foods are low in fat and calories
Fruits and vegetables are naturally low in fat, sugar and calories –
some contain none of them. Whether you watch your calorie intake, want
to stay healthy, prevent nutrient deficiencies, or need a quick energy
boost, munch on a piece of fruit or enjoy a fresh salad (don’t use any
salad dressings, though) each day. When it comes to nuts and seeds, make
sure you eat them in moderation.
5. They are eco-friendly
Want to protect the environment? Start eating more raw foods each
day. The thing is, raw foods provide very low CO2 emissions and you
don’t waste electricity to cook them, except when you make juices or
smoothies. Raw foods don’t need to be packaged or canned, which means
there’s less garbage that usually pollute the environment.
6. They are tasty
Who said raw foods are not tasty? Nuts, bananas, kiwi fruits,
oranges, apples, cherries, strawberries, raspberries, blueberries,
carrots, mangoes, pineapples, avocado, bell peppers and many other
fruits and vegetables are incredibly delicious and you don’t need to add
any salt and sugar to improve their taste. You can have a new salad,
smoothie, juice and dessert each day without spending your whole
paycheck on foods that do more harm than good.
7. They are cheap
Raw foods are usually expensive during the winter season, but it’s
much cheaper during the summer and fall seasons. Spending less money on
foods means saving some cash for more important things you want to buy.
Fruits, vegetables, seeds and nuts are cheaper than processed foods,
meat, diary and fast food.
8. They are versatile
Raw foods are super versatile and you don’t need to spend hours in
the kitchen to make something delicious and unique. You can make fresh
salads, juices, smoothies or eat your favorite fruit and vegetables as
part of your meal or snack. With a wide variety of fruit and veggies,
you will never get bored eating raw foods.
Eating raw is always beneficial and affordable. Choose a semi-raw
food diet and your health and wallet with thank you down the road. Raw
foods contain almost all nutrients your body needs and they are high in
water that you need to stay healthy and energized. Are you going to eat
eco-friendly?
